Are budget keyboards worth it?

Jedel GK100-B

Our Overall Thoughts

I think there are a plethora of different options to go for when it comes to peripherals but not many good options when you are on a budget, especially for keyboards under £50. For this keyboard to be so affordable, offer the number of features it does and be good at doing it, I think you would be missing out if you didn’t even try it. We are now offering it at a price of £12.50 excluding shipping if you would want to buy this, please get in touch with one of our team by calling 03001240990, or contact sales@citycommunications.co.uk

Are you looking for a new keyboard?

If you are looking to start a new setup or you’re in the market for a new keyboard, I think going for the cheaper option can always be a risk but there are roses within the sea of thorns in the keyboard market. As a short answer, I think it is definitely worth looking at the keyboards that are less than £20 if you are on a budget but make sure you always do the research!

I have looked at many keyboards over my time within the tech industry and I think Jedel’s GK100-B keyboard and mouse combo deal is up there with one of the best budget options on the market at the moment. The black and white backlit keyboard has all the functionality you would need from a more expensive keyboard without the price. It has 104 replaceable key caps, hot keys like Calculator Key, Internet Keys, LED Mode Adjustment Key and Media Keys, via FN. It has had high praise and boasts a 4-star review on Amazon from 1,100 reviews. The only negative I have with this keyboard is that it has no rubber footing and as it’s extremely lightweight, if you do not have a keyboard mat it will likely slide on a desk. The mouse included is not as excellent as the keyboard but still boasts LED features and has a comfortable design for the hand. I would buy this just for the keyboard and then later down the line swap the mouse to a Razor DeathAdder, Logitech G203 or Corsair Harpoon.

Here are 5 tips you may need when buying a new keyboard:

1. Work Type

Varieties of computer keyboards are available in the market today, each designed with a focus on specific features to suit special purposes. The first thing you need to consider is what you will be doing with your keyboard. There are keyboards specially designed for gaming. I would recommend getting one of them, if you are a serious gamer. The best gaming keyboards incorporate special gaming keys to assist playing computer games. If you need your computer for typing jobs that have you typing for prolonged periods, then get an ergonomic keyboard that gives you a great, comfortable typing experience.

2. Compatibility

Most keyboards nowadays connect to a computer via USB ports. The old PS/2 ports are almost obsolete. Wireless keyboards connect to the system via Bluetooth and are somewhat tricky to setup, unlike the plug and play USB cord keyboards. Most keyboards need some software installed on your computer to use the function keys. Make sure the keyboard is compatible with your system before you buy one.

3. Wired vs Wireless

The wired and wireless configurations both have their pros and cons. The wireless configuration cuts the cord out that clutters your desk, but there are chances that it interferes with other wireless devices. For gaming, the wired keyboards are preferred since the wireless keyboards tend to lag which impedes gameplay. Wireless keyboards are battery powered, which needs to be charged or replaced from time to time – which adds to the cost. Therefore, a keyboard that supports both wired and wireless configurations are preferred by many who want the best of both worlds.

4. Design

The design and architecture of the keyboard makes a big difference in your computing experience. Based on design, the keyboards can be grouped into standard, gaming and ergonomic. Standard keyboards are the most common types. These days, standard keyboards come with multimedia keys besides the standard set of 104 keys. Gaming keyboards are for the purpose of gaming which incorporates the multimedia keys as well as other special keys for gaming. Ergonomic keyboards are designed to position your hands naturally and reduce strain by offering a proper wrist rest to maximize comfort. They sure are pricey but they are worth the money! Those who focus on portability might want to get a flexible, foldable keyboard that doesn’t take up much space in their bags. For those prone to accidents, keyboards that can resist liquid are available in the market. For programmers, the keyboard in DVORAK layout is better than the standard QWERTY layout. Many manufactures have poured lots of clever ideas into their keyboard designs. Choose the one designed to meet your requirements.

5. Price

Depending on the features they incorporate, keyboards come in different prices. Obviously, the more features it has, the more expensive it is. Look for a keyboard that meets your requirements as well as your budget. Be smart and don’t spend on things you don’t really need.
